My whole life I have been a “planner”. As a child, I would lay out my school clothes the night before in preparation for class. As a teenager, I would meticulously map out a driving route and hand write out the directions (yes, this was pre-smart phones!). As a twenty-something professional, I spent countless hours rehearsing work presentations and anticipating every possible colleague’s question. But a lifetime of being a planner couldn’t prepare me for parenthood. All the variables, all the unknowns, and all the fears. It’s hard enough to keep myself safe, how am I going to protect this tiny baby?! Luckily companies like First Alert are around to help with the planning.
Being a parent is terrifying. How in the world can I avoid every possible horrible scenario that could harm my daughter?! Between anti-vaxxers, climate change, and something as simple as a playground injury, the terrible possibilities seem endless. That is why I jumped at the opportunity to work with First Alert to learn more about their 10-Year Combination Smoke & Carbon Monoxide Alarm. Here’s what I learned…
The First Alert 10-Year Combination Smoke & Carbon Monoxide Alarm is an essential tool to creating a safe environment in your home. Yes, every home needs fire alarms, but you do not want to neglect having carbon monoxide detectors in the home either. That’s why this First Alert product is so fantastic. It offers 2-in-1 protection against smoke and carbon monoxide.
Plus, it has a 10-year sealed battery, so you don’t have to worry about low battery chirps or battery replacements. The 10-Year Combination Smoke & Carbon Monoxide Alarm will simply give you an end-of-life warning so you know when it is time to replace them.
Another fantastic feature that First Alert has thought of is voice alerts. Not only can you get 10-Year Combination Smoke & Carbon Monoxide Alarms for your home, you can go the extra step and purchase some with the voice alerts. This alarm literally talks to you, letting you know the type and location of danger in your home. I personally am installing a combination of the two alarms throughout my home, so that I have all my bases covered.
If you’re a first-time homeowner like me, then this will probably be your first time installing alarms, am I right? To make sure you’re doing it right, here are some safety tips for your 10-Year Combination Smoke & Carbon Monoxide Alarms…
Always make sure that smoke and carbon monoxide alarms are installed in every bedroom and on every level of your home. Follow the installation instructions that come with the product, but make sure the alarm is installed on the ceiling or within 12 inches from it.
Test your smoke and carbon monoxide alarms regularly to make sure they are working properly. Replace batteries every six months on your alarms or upgrade to 10-year sealed battery alarms to eliminate the need for battery replacements. And if you do get the 10-year sealed battery alarms, then just make sure to replace every 10 years.
Lastly, plan out an escape route with your family. You may not be able to anticipate when there will be a fire or carbon monoxide emergency, but at least you can plan what you’ll do when there is one. Also, make sure to practice the escape route with the whole family. This is especially important if you have little ones, since that will help them remember what to do in an emergency.
And last, but certainly not least, plan to give your family a love-filled hug everyday. Learn more about the First Alert 10-Year Combination Smoke & Carbon Monoxide Alarms here. Stay safe, friends!
