Bella + Chef Jason Roberts

Bella Collage Autumn is right around the corner and with it comes a season of new and improved products.  Fashion houses aren’t the only ones holding Fall previews, appliance companies are as well… and we couldn’t be more thrilled.  Personally, I prefer the sexiness of a streamlined toaster over the sultry strut of a supermodel any day!  That’s why we jumped at the opportunity to visit Bella Housewares’ headquarters in New York last week to see their new line of appliances and attend a cooking demo with celebrity chef Jason Roberts.   Upon entering the Bella headquarters, we were treated to cocktails and the intoxicating smells of Chef Roberts’ cooking.  For those of you unfamiliar with the chef, he’s a New Zealand native classically trained in French cuisine.  Known for healthy living advocacy, he describes his style as “New Australian” – incorporating the farm-to-table concept into traditional native fare.  His charismatic personality and dedication to fresh ingredients was a delight to witness in person. Working his magic on all of Bella’s newest fall appliances, Chef Roberts served us braised lamb, tomato and onion bruschetta, and grilled garlic vegetable salad.  But the piece de resistance were his bite-sized waffles topped with sour cream, smoked salt, and grilled dates – an unexpectedly delicious savory-meets-sweet treat. LAMB CUTLETS WITH CRUSHED PEAS
LAMB
  1. 1 tbs olive oil
  2. 1 clove garlic, finely sliced
  3. 3 x 60g (2 oz) lamb cutlets
PEAS
  1. Salt
  2. Freshly ground pepper
  3. 1/2 cup (60g/2 oz) frozen peas
  4. 1 tbs butter
  5. 1 tbs olive oil
  6. Pinch of nutmeg
  7. Wedge of lemon
INSTRUCTIONS
  1. For the Lamb: Heat olive oil in a medium sized fry pan along with the sliced garlic, being careful not to burn it. Season cutlets with salt and pepper, add to pan and cook for 2-3 minutes on each side until cooked to your liking. Remove and set aside to rest for a couple of minutes.
  2. For the Peas: Heat peas in a saucepan with 3 tbs of water. Cover with a lid an heat until steam appear. Turn off heat. Add butter, olive oil and pinch of salt, pepper and nutmeg. Crush with a fork. Keep warm.

Porcelain Electric Kettle - Bella Appliances Fall 2015 Preview 1 Porcelain Electric Kettle - Bella Appliances Fall 2015 Preview 2 Porcelain Electric Kettle with David's Tea - Bella Appliances Fall 2015 Preview Porcelain Electric Kettle - Bella Appliances Fall 2015 Preview 3 Our second pick for Bella’s best fall appliance is their Triple Brew Coffee Maker.  Not only does this baby brew up a delicious 12-cup carafe of coffee, it can also make single serve ground coffee, loose leaf tea, and K-Cup packs… yeah, you heard me right!  K-Cups!!!  I know it’s not necessarily the trendy thing to say, but I’ve never been a fan of the K-Cup revolution, largely in part to the impracticality of having a whole separate coffee machine just to make a single serve cup.  This product clearly solves the issue and says goodbye to the days of spending half of a dinner party trying to make coffee for your guests, one cup at a time.  The Triple Brew Coffee Maker is, simply put, a great practical investment.   Triple Brew Coffee Maker - Bella Appliances Fall 2015 Preview 4 Triple Brew Coffee Maker - Bella Appliances Fall 2015 Preview 2 Triple Brew Coffee Maker - Bella Appliances Fall 2015 Preview 1 So, there you have it!  Our guide to Bella Housewares’ new fall appliance collection.  We’d like to thank Bella for sending us home with the two fabulous products and in the nicest way possible say… you’re not getting them back!  You’ll have to pry them from my cold, dead (heavily caffeinated) hands, Bella!  Don’t make this get ugly.
