Themed Sunday Brunches! They sound fabulous, fun, and like a lot of work, am I right?! In this Pinterest-styled world, the perfect table setting or love-filled recipe can seem unattainable and a bit overwhelming. Well, I am here to tell you that they don’t have to be. I am a working mom on a tight budget, and I have to get very inventive to offer my family the kind of photo-worthy experiences I would like to. That is why I am absolutely loving today’s breakfast theme… Retro Sunday Brunch. All you need is an old-school smoothie recipe, some pastel accessories, and some bowls of Malt-O-Meal® Blueberry Muffin Toasters® Cereal.
For years, I gave up on creating a fabulous Sunday Brunch at home, convinced that it would take up too much of my time and budget. But then I realized that it wasn’t the concept of Sunday Brunch that was the problem, it was my attitude. Why did I think that to make a special weekend breakfast for my family, I needed to spend tons of money and slave away hours in the kitchen?! We could make lovely lasting memories with a lot less expense and stress with a little smoke and mirrors. Themed dishes, a unique drink recipe, and a simple matching breakfast food to go along with it all. Thus was born my idea for the Retro Sunday Brunch!
So how do you go about creating a simple, but on-point, themed weekend brunch like today’s feature? First, start off with the foodie centerpiece. My Retro Sunday Brunch is all themed around the old school, and deliciously throwback flavors of Malt-O-Meal Blueberry Muffin Toasters Cereal. Like I said, the key is to keep it simple, and there is nothing more easy to whip up than cereal. If you haven’t tried it yet, then pick up a bag immediately! Malt-O-Meal Blueberry Muffin Toasters really does taste like blueberry muffins. Every crunchy bite is made with a lightly puffed cereal of whole wheat and rice. And best of all, it’s probably what your grandma would serve to your own mom when she was a kid, so it has an air of nostalgia about it.
Next on the themed brunch list is to secure the dishes. You do not have to spend an arm and a leg for this part. Just take a bit of time scouring the dollar section of your favorite store or go scavenging at a local antique market. I put together this spread of bowls, mugs, and candle holders from a mix of big-box store buys and a clearance section at my supermarket, and came in at under $25. Not bad, huh?!
Lastly, add a unique coffee or smoothie recipe to the table for the cherry on top! I whipped up a simple blueberry, raspberry, and almond milk smoothie for this brunch to complement the fabulous flavors of the Malt-O-Meal Blueberry Muffin Toasters Cereal. Feel free to grab my delicious Springtime Oat Smoothie recipe if you need a bit of inspiration.
And that is literally all it takes! All that is left is to enjoy with your family as you make some lasting memories. Make sure to visit Malt-O-Meal Blueberry Muffin Toasters for more information and where you can pick up a bag. So tell me, what simple Sunday Brunch theme do you want to see next?
