Today is the official launch of my new series “Fashionable Food”. The whole concept of The Frosted Petticoat was born out a daydream I had about making a beautiful dress into an edible piece of art… thus the name of my company. GASP! It all makes sense now, right?! I have always found recipe and food styling inspiration from the runways and I think it’s about time I show you exactly how my process works. Within the next few months, I will be creating recipes and styling shoots based solely off of inspirational runway looks from the year’s fashion weeks. Our staff is currently in the early prep-stages, but in the meantime I’m going to revisit old recipe posts and pair them with some strikingly similar couture pieces. Sound fun? Yes! So for first Fashionable Food post, I present to you my Springtime Oat Smoothie to match the Spring 2018 Oscar de la Renta dress.
I know it sounds crazy, but some of my best recipe ideas have been inspired by fashion. My brain is weird, but let’s just roll with it. So I thought it’d be fun to give you some insight into how this whole recipe development, food styling process works while also getting to indulge in a little couture. So let’s start off with the spark – Oscar de la Renta’s Spring 2018 line and this scrumptious tulle gown…
- 1/3 cup of greek yogurt
- 1/2 cup of grapefruit
- 1/4 cup of raspberries
- 1/2 cup of blueberries
- 1/4 cup of oats
- 2 tablespoons of honey
- Add the greek yogurt, grapefruit, and raspberries to a blender. Blend thoroughly and pour into a glass.
- Pour most of the oats over the top of the mixture in the glass.
- Separately add the blueberries and honey to a blender. Blend thoroughly and pour into the glass over the oats.
- Garnish with oats and enjoy!
So there you have it, our first Fashionable Food. Shout out below the design houses you want me to work my edible magic on and I’ll add them to the list. Oh and as an extra special treat, I’ve included a flash giveaway for a $20 Amazon Gift Card below… you know, to help you with kitchen supplies! 😉 Good luck!
