I recently moved to Houston, Texas from the East Coast and quickly learned that the Lone Star State has an abundance of two natural resources: southern hospitality and heat. The locals’ idea of a “cold” winter’s day is a semi-cloudy February afternoon when the mercury reluctantly dips down into the 70s. I’m melting down here, people! Personally, I find the worst part about the sweltering weather is entertaining company during the summer. If we’re going to be having a backyard BBQ in Satan’s armpit, then I need to make sure my refreshing drink game is on point. So when I was asked by Stoli Vodka to create a summer cocktail recipe with their new Stoli Crushed line, it was like the abundantly-air-conditioned gates of Heaven opened up. Completely inspired by their delicious Pineapple and Ruby Red Grapefruit flavors, I whipped up the Smoky Pineapple Fresca cocktail recipe.
Smoky Pineapple Fresca
INGREDIENTS:
1 ¾ ounces of Stoli Crushed Pineapple Vodka
½ ounce of mezcal
Dash of grapefruit juice
Dash of lime juice
1 teaspoon of honey
1 fresh basil leaf (chopped)
3-4 chunks of pineapple
Ice
DIRECTIONS:
Let’s walk this through step-by-step, shall we? Muddle the pineapple chunks and chopped basil leaf in a wine glass.
Add 1/2 ounce of mezcal…
Add a dash of lime juice…
Add a dash of grapefruit juice…
Add 1 3/4 ounces of Stoli Crushed Pineapple Vodka…
… and finally add 1 teaspoon of honey.
Top with ice and stir generously with a bar spoon.
I couldn’t think of a more appropriately refreshing way to utilize Stoli Crushed. Frescas are notoriously rejuvenating on a steamy day because they are a perfectly chilled, fruity concoction. And just saying the word “fresca” lowers your body temperature by 10 degrees. Really, it’s science. Stoli Crushed is the perfect vodka for backyard entertaining on a hot summer’s day because it is the first premium, imported vodka with real fruit juice. The smooth, high-quality vodka is made with naturally gluten-free ingredients that include corn and buckwheat, and then blended with real pineapple and grapefruit juice. So make sure to pick up a pick up a few bottles of Stoli Crushed Pineapple and Ruby Red Grapefruit Vodka for your next steamy backyard BBQ… they work wonderfully in a cocktail (like today’s!) or on-the-go, simply over crushed ice and club soda. Now if you don’t mind me, me and my fresca are going to have a little alone time.

Oh my! These look amazing! Now to have my bartender(aka the hubs) make a round of these to sip poolside!
Love this! I need this to get in my glass now!
This sounds refreshing!
looks amazing! Is the vodka sweet on it’s own? I don’t like drinks that are too sweet so should I hold back on honey then?
Thanks, Victoria! Stoli has done a nice job just adding a splash of pineapple flavor and not too much else. Not sweet in the traditional sense of sweet liqueurs. And yes, you can easily hold the honey on this recipe. If you’d like to really spice it up, I’d even suggest substituting the honey for a dash of jalapeno oil! 😉
Oh this sounds like summer in a drink! YUM!!!
Cheers!
This looks like a wonderful summer drink!
Cheers!
I’m not a vodka person..but i’m sure i can pass this on to my Vodka lover friends..!!!
You could substitute it with a gin or tequila. Great for mixing for friends, though!

Thanks, Mila! It’s actually an acrylic tray with a palm tree design. Was purchased at a home goods store, just can’t remember which one.
