Post-Workout… Ice Cream?!

We’ve all been there. You’re back on the wagon, or more accurately, the stationary bicycle.  You finally bit the bullet and are pursuing an active lifestyle. Spinach shakes, kale salads, SoulCycle, step-counting, fantasizing about chocolate but not actually eating it. You know, you’re being healthy. Your muscles ache, you’re looking great, but your stomach pretty much hates you. “Why are you torturing me?!”, it grumbles angrily as you reluctantly chomp into a raw piece of broccoli. I write this with such clarity because I, myself, am currently in the throws of an all out healthy lifestyle kick. And if there’s one thing that anyone who is experiencing this journey with me knows, is that it is hard to shake the guilt. Even one little sugary splurge feels like you’ve cheated on your spouse with a daytime Soap actor. It’s just a donut, people, not Don Julio the mariachi singer! So you can imagine my hungered cry of excitement when ProYo High Protein Low Fat Ice Creams asked to team up with me to bring awareness to their guilt-free sweet treat. An ice cream I can actually eat as a post-workout snack?! Hell. Yes.

After an intense workout and with an unusually giddy look on my face, I traversed up the freezer aisle at my local Kroger and perused the ice cream section for the brightly packaged pints. There I found a few delectable flavors from the ProYo High Protein Low Fat Ice Cream selection: Blueberry Pomegranate, Mint Chip, and Dark Chocolate Toffee. Then I immediately went home to put together my post-workout snack. I opted to switch out my usual yogurt smoothy for a few scoops of the brand’s Blueberry Pomegranate ice cream. Topped with chia seeds, fresh mint, blackberries, and pepitas, I was all set for a snack that was actually about 100 calories less than my usual post work-out pick-me-up. In all honesty, it was divine! I don’t know how they did it, but the ProYo High Protein Low Fat Ice Cream didn’t actually taste how the name suggests. It seriously tastes just like exceptionally delicious and fatty ice cream. But this stuff actually has 10g of protein in each serving and low fat content.  How in the world did ProYo manage to pull this off? It must be fairy dust or a deal with the devil. I’m putting my money down on fairy dust, it’s just too magical to not be. So after I inhaled the guilt-free treat and had calmed myself, I went back and put together a pretty little styled shoot for you all… and let’s just pretend this is what my post-workout bowl actually looked like…
