The year is about to come to a close, so I ask you this:have you done anything crazy yet? If you’ve been following along with my website throughout 2018, then you know I’ve been challenging myself to make some pretty insane recipes. Goat cheese cocktails! Banana Salmon Egg Rolls! Elderflower liqueur marshmallows! It’s been quite a wild (and delicious!) ride. Well, I have one last weird but awesome recipe to close out the year… The Spiced Mustard Sidecar. It’s a twist on the classic brandy-based cocktail, but with a bit of Colman’s Mustard added in (yeah, you read that right). And trust me, the risk is well worth the reward. So, I’ll ask you again… have you done anything crazy this year?
I know, I know, this drink sounds crazy! But if you really think about it, so does a Bloody Mary. And this cocktail is way less spicy and a lot more sweet. Need a bit more convincing before you shake one of these babies up? Then let’s walk through the mixing process together. First, you’ll want to prepare the rim garnish. Mix together 1 tsp. of Colman’s Dry Mustard Powder, ¼tsp. of cloves, and 1 tbs. of granulated sugar. Then pour the ingredients into a small dish.
Then in a second small dish, pour 1 tbs. of honey. Dip the rim of a Collin’s glass in the honey and then immediately dip it in the mustard spiced rim garnish. Set aside the glass while you prepare the next step.
In a small bowl, thoroughly mix together ½ tsp. of Colman’sPrepared Mustard, 1 tbs. of honey, and ½ tsp. of lime juice. Pour into the rimmed Collin’s Glass. I absolutely love Colman’s Prepared Mustard in this recipe. It adds just the right amount of punch and heat to the glass without being overpowering.
Add ½ oz. of spiced rum to the glass and stir with a bar spoon. Add ice.
Top off with brandy and enjoy!
So what do you think? Are you going to end the year with a punch of heat and courage? If you answered “Yes!”, then congratulations because you are awesome! Then immediately pick up some Colman’s Mustard at your nearest retailer and earn some rebates through iBotta.
