Need a last minute drink recipe to impress your holiday guests? Then gather around and take notes! At the request of some of our loyal readers, I have whipped together a super easy, ridiculously delicious boozy hot cocoa recipe that you won’t want to miss. And since we’re doing this so last minute, let’s just cut to the chase… Spiked Spicy Peppermint Cocoa. Here’s what you’ll need:
1 cup of whole milk
1/2 cup of semi-sweet chocolate chips
1 1/2 ounces of peppermint liqueur
1/2 teaspoon of cayenne pepper
1/2 teaspoon of cinnamon
Step 1: In a medium size sauce pan, heat the milk and chocolate chips. Mix the ingredients continuously until the chocolate has melted and has a silky consistency. Immediately add the cayenne and cinnamon. Mix the spices in until thoroughly combined and then remove from heat. Pour into a holiday mug.
Step 2: Add the peppermint liqueur to the mug, stir, and garnish with marshmallows or a candy cane.
Step 3: Drink and be merry!
And don’t worry about making Santa’s naughty list with this one… it’s so good, even the big man would give you a free pass! And if the yuletide cheer really inspires you to impress your guests, here’s a poem by William Wordsworth that will only enhance the sipping experience:
Make it Snow !
The minstrels played their Christmas tune
To-night beneath my cottage-eaves;
While, smitten by a lofty moon,
The encircling laurels, thick with leaves,
Gave back a rich and dazzling sheen,
That overpowered their natural green.
Through hill and valley every breeze
Had sunk to rest with folded wings:
Keen was the air, but could not freeze,
Nor check, the music of the strings;
So stout and hardy were the band
That scraped the chords with strenuous hand.
And who but listened?–till was paid
Respect to every inmate’s claim,
The greeting given, the music played
In honour of each household name,
Duly pronounced with lusty call,
And “Merry Christmas” wished to all.
Have a safe and jolly Christmas, my friends!
