Special thanks to Rooms To Go Kids for sponsoring this post! All opinions and styling are my own.
Designing a room can be an exhilarating task. From palettes to fabric swatches to furniture placement, I find it to be an exciting and fun process. However, there is one exception. My daughter’s room! With every new design in her bedroom comes gut-wrenching bursts of reality… my baby girl is growing up! I cried the day we converted her crib to a toddler bed. I also shed a tear when her wooden rocking chair was repurposed as patio seating. And now that she is 4-years-old and taller than most her age, it’s time for a big girl bed. I don’t know if my soul can take any more! Luckily, Rooms To Go Kids is helping me with the bedroom transformation and their sweet kids furniture selection is softening the blow of an inevitable parenting heartbreak.
My daughter has needed a big kid bed for a while now, yet my husband and I have been in the deep throws of denial. But with a new school year starting and the gorgeous Rooms To Go Kids showroom at our fingertips, it is time to move forward. So to transform my daughter’s nursery into a big kid bedroom, I took measurements of her (small) room and booked a visit to my local Rooms To Go Kids showroom.
Even though her crib is gone, that doesn’t mean I am about to give up on her whimsical woodland nursery. With forest creatures covering the walls and a dreamy palette of mint, grey, blush, and earth tones, there was no way I was changing it. The overall theme is going to stay the same, but just with upgraded big kid furniture and design elements. So to add a bit of growing up to the space, I knew I wanted a twin bed with an ethereal feel about it. However, I wanted to make sure the bed could grow with her metaphorically, something to last throughout her pre-teen and even teenage years.
Like a beacon in the night, the Jaclyn Place Canopy Daybed immediately jumped out at me upon entering the Rooms To Go Kids showroom. It was perfectly whimsical with its addition of the dreamy Belle Noir White Canopy of satin and tulle. Yet it was also wonderfully versatile with a sophisticated grey hue and arched lines. Pretty ideal for growing with my little munchkin through the years, if you ask me. But best of all, it would actually fit in her tiny room. With only a 10’ x 13’ space to work with, a day bed is perfect for grounding the room in a central location, while also staying flush against the wall to maximize the space.
Now that we found the perfect bed, it was on to the next big decision. I wanted to make sure we were able to fit in a storage solution option in the space, something along the lines of a chest or armoire. Luckily, the Jaclyn Place collection comes with beautifully matching drawers, the Kids Jaclyn Place Gray Dresser. And to my delight, it was exactly the right size to fit the space. Gone will be the days of rummaging through baskets on the floor of her closet to find a pair of socks! Now she’ll have proper drawers for her clothes.
Since the canopy day bed and drawers were about all that could comfortably fit in the space, the next step was working on some grown-up details. With a woodland design elevation in mind, I chose to add the Anwen Round Tassel Rug, Small Clear Chandelier, Florence Square Mirror, and Watercolor Feathers Pillow to the decor. Is it just me or did you also not know that Rooms To Go Kids offered up more than just furniture?! I was thrilled with all of the décor options available in store. So with all the selections being made and a lovely Rooms To Go staff member to assist me, the items were ordered and scheduled for home delivery and setup within 5 minutes flat.
Within a few days, we received a call that the items would be delivered shortly. So, we prepped the room and removed some of the more babyish elements from the nursery. My husband literally had tears flowing down his face as he hauled our daughter’s toddler bed into the attic. Seriously, does this parenting thing ever get any easier?! Then the lovely staff from Rooms To Go arrived with all the loot. They quickly and expertly unboxed and assembled everything within 20 minutes. Honestly, with the speed and expertise at which they assembled the furniture, it made the whole transformation process a lot less painful for my sensitive parenting heart.
All that was left was to put out the final touches. I placed the Jaclyn Place Canopy Daybed flush and center against the longest wall in her room. Luckily there was just enough space on each side to place her bookshelves.
Next I arranged the new Kids Jaclyn Place Gray Dresser. Clothes with room to spare were tucked away and all her favorite keepsakes perfectly arranged on top. And seriously, could the drawers fit any better between her closet and the door?! It was like Rooms To Go Kids custom made this piece for her room!
Lastly, it was time to add all the frosting. I placed the new pillow on her bed, gave the birds a mirror to gaze at, plopped the rug on the floor, and installed the gorgeous chandelier.
Then it was time for the big reveal to my baby girl. With wide eyes and utter joy, she took in the whole room with the sort of excitement that is often only captured on Christmas morning. Her reaction was worth all the parental growing pains.
From start to finish the whole process was truly phenomenal. Rooms To Go Kids furniture selection, staff, and delivery services were stellar. And goodness, is the furniture gorgeous or what?! Now, I am going to revel in this next stage of my daughter’s life and hope that somehow I will get used to the heartache.
