As many of you know, I am a Houstonian. I had only been living in the city for a year when Hurricane Harvey hit. Now, I’ve lived through the Northridge Earthquake, tornados in Ohio, and Hurricane Sandy in New York, but nothing compared to the devastation I saw during Harvey. Nothing also compared to the loving community that rose to support one another as well. My friends in Florida experienced the same devastation just last year during Hurricane Michael. But like Houstonians, Floridians are coming back even stronger and doing it as a loving community. For the sake of camaraderie, today I’m doing my part to highlight a beautiful part of the state that has weathered the storm. Panama City Beach. They have a tourism-based economy, so let’s get them some tourists! And seriously, who doesn’t want to travel to a gorgeous beach town anyway?! Here are my top 5 things visitors must do when they visit Panama City Beach…
1. Eat Seafood!
Did you know that Panama City Beach is the seafood capital of the South?! Seriously, I need to book my flight immediately! Yes from the famous seafood markets to waterfront restaurants like Capt. Anderson’s, it is a foodie paradise. Plus, you can literally share a meal with mermaids at Sisters of the Sea Dive Bar. I know, right?!
2. Go Shell Hunting
Plan a relaxing day of shell hunting on Shell Island! A 7-mile long undeveloped barrier island that is part of St. Andrews State Park, it is home to an abundance of land and sea wildlife, gorgeous sand dunes, and plenty of shells to be found. So pack a lunch, start your sandy scavenger hunt, and make it yours.
3. Include your Furry Friend
Panama City Beach gets that pets are part of the family. And with a pet-friendly array of adventures and inclusive restaurants, you can actually bring your furry friend along on this vacation. From endless walking along piers & parks to shopping at Ron Jon’s Surf Shop to enjoying fried green tomatoes at Salty Sue’s, little Fido can tag along. Best of all, Ocean of Love Pet Sitting will watch your furry family member when you go scuba diving or need a few hours to decompress at the spa.
4. Go Paddleboarding
Panama City Beach has an array of protected and open waters that are perfect for paddleboarding. From the Grand Lagoon to St. Andrews Bay to the Gulf of Mexico, it is a fun and relaxing way to take in both the beautiful sights and wildlife.
5. Stay in an Ocean-Front Resort Tower
If there is anything Panama City Beach has an abundance of, it’s stunning ocean views. So take advantage of them during your stay by booking a room in one of the many ocean-front resort tower buildings. Is there anything more relaxing than waking up to the sight of crystal-blue ocean?!
If you’re anything like me, any one of these top 5 has convinced me to book my trip to Panama City Beach. They had me at “seafood capital”! With warm weather around the corner, the time is now…plan your fun today! And keep in mind that natural disasters can really take a toll on a community, so we all need to do our part to help get them back on track. Also check out the best campgrounds in Florida for some more vacation ideas. Tourism is a great way to pitch in. So book your trip to Panama City Beach and visit the Real. FUN. Beach.
