I grew up in a big city and always dreamed of living in a quaint town where everyone knew your name. My yearning for such a lifestyle could probably be matched by those small-town kids dreaming of the big city. I continue to hop from one big city to the next, but my urge for a more homey feel hasn’t wavered. That’s why when I hear about a place like Rockwall, Texas, I want to pack up and move immediately. Rockwall holds a bi-annual Farm to Feast community dinner in their downtown center. What?! Yes, it’s like they live in a Reese Witherspoon rom-com. Photographer Lauren Marks documented the most recent dinner and gives us a peak into the amazing community tradition…
One of my favorite nights of the year had finally arrived. Downtown Rockwall was hosting their (fourth) bi-annual Farm to Feast and the evening couldn’t have been more beautiful. What seemed to be a never-ending table was adorned with a spread of mouth-watering hors d’ oeuvres for it’s 150 eager dinner guests.
On this particular night, Denise Webb (Farm to Feast organizer), decided to go with a colorful, whimsical, summery palette. The Artisan plate filled with local seasonal fruit, pickled vegetables, summer sausages and spreads were all gathered from Rockwall’s very own Farmer’s Market. And while the menu states that there are technically only four courses, guests were in fact served nine different regalements followed by the dessert, (totaling ten). And not one of them disappointed.
The food dazzled and the atmosphere felt almost nostalgic. The town gathered for what felt like a really large family meal and truly celebrated community. Moneys collected from Farm to Feast ticket sales go right back into hosting Rockwall’s Annual Winter Festival. It’s a great time to live in Rockwall, Texas.
