As a professional food stylist, recipe developer, and blogger, I receive a lot of unsolicited products in the mail. Some of these are not so good, and thus I don’t share them with you. But many are absolutely fabulous. So for the interest of sharing, I am starting a new post series revealing my new favorite products. Let’s get to today’s find: Finishing Sauces. Who else here has never heard of finishing sauces? Maybe it’s because I come from a humble upbringing or maybe I just have lived a relatively sheltered life. A finishing sauce? Sounded like something someone would want after they asked you to pass the Grey Poupon. Hey, even us professionals don’t know everything. Well, luckily before I could make a fool of myself in a group of knowledgeable foodies, I received a case of Top Mates’ Aussie Finishing Sauces. A British tradition that has been embellished by the Aussie brand, finishing sauces are traditionally meat toppers. So I guess I knew what they were all along, but didn’t realize they had an official name. Who knew?! Well, Top Mates offers a variety of delectable, non-traditional takes on the uber traditional sauce. I’ll let the brand introduce you to the selection…
Apple & Mint:
English speak for Lamb Jam
When you order lamb at any good restaurant it always comes with mint jelly. This top mate puts all others to shame. This also helps explain what the entire line of Top Mates are all about. Why let lamb have all the fun?
Savory Cherry:
The Aussie #1 seller… great on all including the holiday ham.
Smoked Tomato:
Originally designed for sausages (snags), this special smoked tomato topping surpasses all other tomato sauces on the market. Go ahead. Snag a few jars! (English speak for buy some now!)
Savory Pineapple:
English Speak for Pork Jam
Originally designed as the ideal mate for pork, this is also a favorite on fish or whenever you want the Hawaiian style taste.
Chipotle & Onion
English speak for Hot Jam
Ok, we admit it, this is the only one we slightly altered from the original Aussie version by add adding Chipotle peppers because we know you love the heat! It tastes amazing right out of the jar… as a food topper or serve on crackers as an appetizer. But don’t stop there. You will want to try this during cooking or as a marinade.
Caramelized Garlic:
English speak for Garlic Jam
If you love garlic, you probably don’t need to know more… just try it. Use with BBQ, marinade, during cooking or just eat right out of the jar!
Onion & Shiraz:
English speak for Winemakers Jam
A little Shiraz, a little port and a whole lot of flavor! Pretty much what you might think… great on a steak or with cheese for a gourmet appetizer. Terrific for marinade or cooking.
Well, I happily taste tested every single one and was thoroughly satisfied. My personal favorite was the Caramelized Garlic. Which one do you want to try first? Already have a finishing sauce you love? Shout it out below!

Flavourful blends of sauce
What a fantastic idea! I’ve never seen these sauces before, but I’ll definitely be checking them out. I love how you can add so much flavor to a dish, without spending all kinds of time making your finishing sauce from scratch.
So true… sometimes you just want to add a pop of flavor to a meat dish without having to slave over the oven all day!
