My job as a food writer and stylist has more perks than just getting to taste-test my subjects. From dinner with Giada de Laurentiis to talking rustic pies with Curtis Stone, I get to hang out with some pretty cool people. And one person I am thrilled to constantly cross paths with is Darcy Miller. If you’re a die-hard Martha Stewart fan, then you know exactly who Darcy is. The founding editor of Martha Stewart Weddings, her creative genius and amazing ability to put together a killer party has catapulted her into goddess status. Seriously, Google her… you won’t be disappointed. So, when I was recently heard about Darcy’s new book ‘Celebrate Everything!’, I couldn’t wait to get my hands on a copy.
I will admit, I knew about this book long before it’s recent launch. I had the pleasure of brainstorming some dessert table ideas with Darcy for the ‘Bridal Shower’ chapter of the book (of which my chocolate gem on cupcakes were prominently displayed! Yay!). Being able to witness first-hand the amazing creative abilities of this party titan and then getting to see the ideas come to life was remarkable. It was clear from the first thought, she could completely visualize every minute detail to completion. Besides the talent, I can speak firsthand to Darcy’s kindness and integrity as a female powerhouse. Ever since our first conversation, she offered help and advice for my own growing business… a rarity in this impersonal and surprisingly cut-throat industry.
So you can imagine my dismay when I had to turn down the invitation to attend the ‘Celebrate Everything!’ book launch last week due to a scheduling conflict. But I did get an inside look that I shall share with you, my lovely readers, so that we may experience the fabulousness together. Hosted by Jonathan Adler at his NYC showroom, the party was host to some of the world’s most creative (and stylish!) minds: Simon Doonan, Adam Glassman, Bridget Moynahan, Carolina Herrera, and Stacy London, just to name a few. Most importantly, the launch focused on the book itself. Darcy shares her expertise and her signature style in this ultimate party-planning bible. From practical tips and inspiration, readers can “DIY” (Darcy-it-Yourself) and “DIT” (Do-it-Together) with easy step-by-step tutorials. Best of all, the parties featured on the pages are her own actual celebrations, not static and sterile studio photo shoots. Lastly, the book is filled with Darcy’s fun illustrations as lovely cherry on top of the swoon-worthiness.
I will be trying out a recipe or two from the book in the near future and will make sure to report back to you. But in the meantime, put on your fancy pants and let’s join in on the party to Celebrate Everything!
Special thanks to Darcy Miller and Jonathan Adler for making me feel like I actually attended the festivities and for allowing me to give an inside look to my readers.
