Vintage collectors hold these truths to be self-evident… that all vintage is created superbly. Yes, if you’re a vintage collector then you know that ‘back in the day’ things were often just made better than they are now. Better quality, better craftsmanship, better longevity. That is why I personally prefer an antique mall over a neighborhood mall. The items pre-1970 were made to last and you get more bang for you buck. Plus, vintage items always just look really cool. I’m superficial when it comes to looks, so sue me. That’s why my heart jumped out of my chest when I came across Jrunk Box Bar Kits.
Drew Riemersma of Boise, Idaho has filled this shop with some of the most creative and stunning vintage-craft bar hybrids. Drew frequents flea markets on the search for vintage suitcases. “Old cases were built to last… I believe a case should serve the reflection of its owner and stand the test of time” said the innovative shop owner. He takes these staple pieces and then transforms them into fully-functioning travel bars. That’s right, he makes the suitcase into a bar! Hyperventilating yet?! These mini-renovated bar cases are little works of art. With gorgeous custom wood, leather, and fabric detailing, they are transformed into a practical piece of history.
I received one of these beauties at our headquarters to test out, much to my joy (and shrill squeals!). It’s as gorgeously crafted and sexy in person as the pictures make it out to be. With all the necessities to make a killer cocktail and plenty of room to store extra supplies, it is surprisingly utilitarian while remaining dashingly cool. I couldn’t wait to start playing and whipped up a vintage-meets-modern take on the Old Fashioned cocktail (get the recipe below). It was easy and fabulous. Lucky for you, Drew has generously offered to give away a $50 gift certificate to one of our lovely readers so that you can have one of these babies in your home as well.
