The (not-so) Christmas Baby

Today we will tackle one of the most tragic and horrible occurrences in the history of man… the holiday birthday!  This is something that the staff at The Frosted Petticoat is uncomfortably acquainted with.  We have been cursed with (count them!) FOUR birthdays within the week of Christmas! That’s right Mama Petticoat, Trishy Cocoa, Papa Petticoat, and even yours truly, Sugar Sam were all brought into this world the week of that joyful holiday.  Seriously, no one could have planned this a little better?!

Yes my friends, for those of you who suffer from this terrible affliction you are all too familiar with the “christmas-birthday” present:  you know, the one gift you get from that lazy relative who didn’t bother to get you a separate birthday gift or even pretend to give it pretenses that it is in honor of your birth by wrapping it in the corresponding celebratory paper (you know who you are!). The FP staff are not only very acquainted with the single “birthday-christmas” present, we also suffer from the automatic association of yuletide decor:  Christmas decorations = a birthday party; Birthday cakes = holiday dessert; Christmas carols = time to blow out your birthday candles… it’s a scarring affliction, I’m seeking treatment.

So in light of this horrific epidemic, The Frosted Petticoat would like to aid those seeking to end the cycle of the “Christmas is your Birthday Party” imposition.  Let’s intervene young and urge that if you (or someone you love) has a newborn who will be celebrating baby’s first birthday within the range of this joyful holiday…resist the yuletide temptation!!!  In that light, here’s a (not-so) Christmas inspiration board for the holiday baby in your life:

Love this so much. Try having a birthday along with a college graduation that week. I received the triple crown – birthday, Christmas, and graduation gift. Gotta’ love it! Now, I’m married with a daughter’s b-day 2 days before mine and a husband’s b-day 2 days after mine. It makes for a very challenging time of year. Love your blog!!

Love this! I’m a February baby so I don’t have quite the familiarity, though I rarely celebrate Valentine’s Day. 🙂 I love this post, though — very witty and entertaining! HEehee

Hahah… love all your comments! I feel like I’m in a CBA Meeting (“Christmas-Birthers Anonymous”). We should start a club where we just throw random birthday parties for each other throughout the year!

And if you are all wondering… in general The Frosted Petticoat family does just end up throwing one big Christmas-Birthday party (but we do each get our own cake!!!)… obviously we’ve given up! 😉

Beautiful Selection!! Wow so many bdays around the same time? How about doing just 1 celebration for all together? 😉

First of all, thank you so much for featuring my photo on your lovely blog!
My mum is one of those “suffering” people as well. She was born on 24th of December, thatis in the Czech Republic, the main celebratory day of Christmas. And to add to that, she was named Eva, which is the name that celebrates the Name day on 24th of December. Name day is probably only celebrated in the Czech Republic and Slovakia – I never came across it in other parts of the world, but it is celebrated same as birthday with a cake, flower and/or present. I do not know, what my grandparents thought of, when doing this to her :))))))))))
We usually have a birthday cake in the morning / breakfast time and she always gets the birthday present in the morning as well. And then in the evening, we have Christmas dinner and Christmas presents. She sort of misses on her Name day though…

My birthday…the 23rd. This is the best article ever. I have had my share of “Santa Cakes” but the year that I will never forget, was when my own parents said “pick a gift from under the tree…”
